Shoes for Kids and Toddlers - Shopping for Growing Feet

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Sarah Freeland Children’s feet tend to grow very quickly, so kids shoes generally have to be replaced much more quickly then adult’s shoes. It is important to make sure that your child’s shoes fit properly. Ill fitting or tight shoes can cause problems for kid’s sensitive feet. Kids shoes should be chosen for both style and comfort. It is important to choose shoes with good arch support as this will help your child to maintain a healthy posture. Additionally, shoes should be made of durable material to resist wear and tear. When looking at kids shoes one should consider the type of closure, be it Velcro, snaps or ties. Smaller children will be able to dress themselves more easily if Velcro or other non-lace options are available. Velcro provides a good option because it allows children to get into and out of shoes more easily. When the weather gets hot kids sandals are a great option. Kids can stay cooler with sandals then they can with other shoes. Kids sandals are perfect for the pool or beach. Many sandals are made of water resistant materials and this makes cleaning and caring for sandals a breeze. Many local and online retailers have a wide range of kids shoes to choose from. You can find different colors and patterns that will please any boy or girl. Kids shoes that feature cartoon characters, lights and charms are also available. Do Aphrodisiac Foods Exist

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Kadence Buchanan Many of us have heard that sea-food excite the human senses or that walnuts and honey are the best aphrodisiac. But do certain types of food affect the human erotic impulse? Can specific food categories be the cause of the increase or decrease of male or female libido? Is there any scientific evidence that suggests some types of foods can help the sex life of today’s individuals, or all these are just a legend that goes back to the ancient times? Although a balanced diet is considered today to be the best aphrodisiac, this article can help you spice up your life and answer some of your questions on the subject of aphrodisiac food materials. - What is the role our brain plays? The sexual disposition and activity of a person are directly related with the brain’s activity. Crucial for the transferring of sexual stimulus are considered the neurotransmitters, the chemical substances that transfer messages to and out a person’s brain. These neurotransmitters contribute to one’s good memory and ability to focus, increase the good mood one carries and improve the levels of euphoria, while at the same time they are responsible to release sexual temper. - The secrets of ancient Greeks: Ancient Greeks are legendary for the particular focus they portrayed in the dinner preparation, making it resemble to a ritual as they devoted long periods of time to eat. The information we have available show that they used all of the five senses in an effort to create a sensual environment. Moreover, the food served was carefully selected and prepared and they used to grab food with their hands, as they supported that this practice creates a very interesting sensation stimulating also the brain. Additionally, ancient Greeks were firm believers that the food on the table had to be served with the right order and paid special attention to its appearance on the plate. The food smells and appearances were considered important stimulators for the functions of a healthy brain. - Vitamin E, the “love” vitamin: As scientists and ancient civilizations have found, vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins one should consume daily. Since vitamin E protects the blood cells and directly affects the sexual activity and the fecundity of a person, it is also known as the “fertility vitamin” and is recommended by physicians to treat the reproductive organs’ malfunctions of males worldwide. Nuts, olive oil and avocado are great resources of vitamin E, and one should consume approximately 15 mg a day of these types of food. Indeed, as contemporary researchers indicate, the consumption of certain food categories is related to the activities of the human organism. Dieticians specifically state that people wanting to have a balanced sex life have to include these special types of foods in their diet. As experts agree, exercising often and maintaining a balanced diet are the secrets to reduce stress and enjoy a better and healthier sex life. The Fire Within The Atharva Veda

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Jeff Stats In a modern world of developing technology and space exploration people are getting used to the notion of “the newer-the better”. In reality, this concept may not prove to be true especially if such an important part of most peoples life as religion is taken into consideration. Numerous of the newly emerging religions are based on easy beliefs and comforting philosophies that are easy to manage as an “every Sunday” obligation. Looking back at the old times it becomes clear that people back than were not looking for a simple answer and effortless routine worshipping. Hindu religion is one of the richest in history and tradition in the world. Its structure is very complex and confusing although throughout all schools one can trace a certain central theme. This theme is derived from a humans most sacred and important function of earth-the realization of the fire within given to a human by God. The Atharva Veda is a sacred text of Hinduism, part of the four books of the traditional Vedas. It derives from the Indo-Aryan name Atharvan, a term which is usually taken to describe a fire priest in Vedic Sanskrit. More specifically, the Atharva Veda was mainly composed by two clans of fire priests known as the Bhrigus (also called Atharvans) and Angirasas. Additionally, it also includes composition of certain other Indo-Aryan clans such as the Kaushikas, Vasishthas and Kashyapas. The Atharva Veda, although definitely belonging to the Vedic period, is often considered younger than the other three Vedas. In this sense, it is the “Fourth Veda” of the turiya, or the four original sacred texts in the Hindu religion. Judging from its contents, it is clearly intended for “private” ritual, dealing with sickness, love potions, and other domestic issues, such as charms for cattle and security of harmony, as opposed to the “public” rituals described in the Yajur Veda. The most important feature of the viewed Veda is the first notification of the whole new philosophical trend. “Agni (fire) is in the earth, in the plants, the waters hold Agni, Agni is in the stones; Agni is within men, Agnis (fires) are within cattle, within horses. Agni glows from the sky, to Agni, the god, belongs the broad air. The mortals kindle Agni, the bearer of oblations that loveth ghee”, those are the mantras of the Cosmogonic and Theosophic Hymns, of the part XII of the Hymns to Goddess Earth. Those hymns are very important for the comprehend understanding of the whole Atharva Veda philosophy. They are announcing that the “The earth, clothed in Agni, with dark knees, shall make me brilliant and alert!” The entire universe is entitled to obey and to coincide with Agni, the mystic fire, the source of life as it is. Life in everything, from stone, water, and air to complex human souls. In those hymns one can trace the first implication of the unification of all life on earth, nature and humans being a whole entity which is united by one mutual component. Everything in existence is described as conglomerated system encompassing all the smallest to the largest articles. The foundations of Vaishheshika, the highest of the Hindu Darshanas is expressed in the mantra XII.1.26 in which the atoms (Paamsu) are described forming the stone, the stones agglutinating to form the rocks and the rocks held together to form the Earth: “To this golden-breasted earth I have rendered obeisance.”, thus hinting on the one common ground that everything sticks too. An early pantheistic thought is seen in the hymn as well and describes the common thread running through all manifest and un-manifest existence as the Skambha. This Skambha element is described as something that poured out of the Hiranyagarbha that was the forerunner of the complex world in a very simple form (X.7.28). This Skambha is Indra and Indra is the Skambha which describes all existence. The hymn also describes the pantheistic nature of the Vedic gods (X.7.38): Skambha is the heat (tapas) that spreads through the universe (Bhuvana) as waves of water. The units of this spreading entity are the gods even as branches of one tree again reminding of the united nature of the universe. This is one particular and central theme that repeatedly presents itself in various interpretations that abounded in later Hindu philosophies and can be considered one of the most fundamental expressions of Vedic thought. The one element that is believed to give life to all things and to unite all of them according to Vedas is the light or the fire. Both of them are the same thing only in different stages though and have to be viewed as interconnected particles. Indra, Mitra, Varuna, Agni-all are His names, the name of God, He is also the golden-winged bird of light. He is the one, the seer-rishis have called him in many names, sometimes as Agni, sometimes as Yama and sometimes as Maatarashvin. The Devas are the so called higher and divine powers that are within us and to which the fire worship in offered and through which a person could ascend the spiritual ladder of Indra, the light. We shall promote the higher powers in us that are called Gods (devas). The worshipper of the Vedas offers himself to these devas, and thus raises these powers in him. This is the secret of the fire ritual (yajna or Sacrifice). In front of this yajna is Agni or the power of tapas, therefore, Agni is situated in front. In this way, the worshipper puts Agni to guide him and is asking Him to call the devas, therefore, he is hotaa (caller). So we see that the caller has to make an actual conscious effort to seek for the fire within him. Elsewhere, Agni is also called vahni, because he carries the devas, that is, brings up the worshipper in the midst of higher powers. Agni is doing this every day (divedive), in truth, therefore, he is called ritvik. The fire of tapas (askesis) brings into the worshipper Divine energy or yashasam viiravattamam, Divine knowledge (chitrashravastamam) and Divine treasures (ratnadhaatamam, the radiance of jewels). This ability of Agni is in the consciousness of Divine Works, therefore, he is kavikratu and he is the manifestation of Truth (gopaam ritasya). The worshipper thus becomes angirasa (worshipper of Agni). Therefore the worshipper needs to work hard in order to see the divine light, the works of the spirit not earthly labor. This complicated system of Agni and the light that it brings needs a deep understanding and ought to be looked at very closely in order to get closer to the ancient truth. The major problem that can be encountered by people unfamiliar with Agni studies can be caused by multiple layers of the Vedas system. To simplify that we should just call Agni, or Indra, God, thus we will be talking about one thing without using various names. In order to rich real results while practicing Athave Veda one has to distance one self from the earthy desires that is probably what is meant where written that the worshipper should promote tapas, pushing one self into some state of mind. From the point of view of modern religion it is a rather barbaric way of finding God. However it is clear that human needs to make an effort to sweep the mind clean off the earthly matters and to let the divine power flow into you, although it seems easy, from the texts of the Vedas and constant repetitions of certain things in them, it is definite that people need continuous practice to be ready for the acceptance of God in their lives. The Devas are the things that bring out the divine in us, the divine that was there already at our births. They reside in our senses and we need to be trained to see the Gods ways through them. Thus Fire became speech and entered into the mouth, Air became Breath and entered into the nostrils, the Sun became Sight and entered into the eyes. All of those senses were given to us by God (Agni) not only for us to manage worldly matters, but to be able to see what else is there in a divine department. The hymns of the Athava Veda, although at times may seem as purely atheistic are calling to nature and all things that constitute nature: Mother-Earth, Heaven and Air and all the things that bring life. They do not take them apart and view as different but rather as a whole universe which sleeps under the cover of one almighty God. The core issue of this religion is to find a way to see God through all of those things and to worship and thank him for all his creations. And this could be done through inner growth and seeking the light within, as we are a part of the system and God has poured his fire into us so that we could come to him and enjoy his presence in our lives here on earth. Although most of the mantras might look like black magic and non-christian way of worshiping God, the complete picture shows that those stanzas are in perfect harmony with the world and do not contradict the main thought of unity. Besides in Athava Veda a very ancient piece of literature one can find notes of the medical importance. They were one of the first texts that included the description of the black entities with dusky patches, which are considered lichens used as antibiotics. This was the sign of the educated society not an undeveloped barbaric tribe as some people still consider Indians to be. Ukkhishta, the father of the generator, the grandson of the spirit (asu), the primal ancestor (grandfather), the ruler of the universe, the lusty bull dwells upon the earth. Order (rita), truth (satya), creative fervour (tapas), sovereignty, asceticism, law and works; past, future, strength, and prosperity, are in the ukkhishta-force . Those lines are found in the sacred text of the Athava Veda hymns under the title Appotheosis of the Ukkhishta, the leavings of the sacrifice. These words are very deep and again bring us back to the central meaning of the viewed philosophy. Ukkhishta is said to be a deposited name and holds a deposited quality of all things, the world is deposited in it the first line of this part of the hymn writes. That could only mean that this universal quality is some component that absolutely everything from stars in the sky to the smallest grain of sand can relate too. It is everything is nothing at the same time. Life and death, food and hunger- that is Ukkhishta. All desires of the heart could be satisfied through it. A mysterious phenomenon of Ukkhishta is very unique to the world of religions but at the same time it is understandable when its researched deeper. This concept encompasses the idea of life and creation itself, the ultimate seed of life that was there before the beginning of times and is reflected in every atom on the planet and outside its boundaries. The Fire and the Light, those elements are the primary and necessary for human life and any type of life, thus Ukkhishta which carries and gives birth to it, is the ultimate treasure that we humans should seek for and cultivate within our souls. The inner light of things, the spark that brings everything to life and gives meaning to all living, the spirit that dwells in the soul of the universe- that is Ukkhishta and Agni at the same time. Agni is the derivative of the first one, although it is hard to imagine God being a secondary element. To avoid confusion, there needs to be made a division between the two although it is difficult to make a concrete one, as these concepts are greatly philosophical and hold no specific physical measures. One has to realize that Agni is a spark that is glowing in the creations of the world and is through constant tapas we as people should cultivate the knowledge of it and should learn to see it and derive happiness from it. Through repetitions of certain mantras and efforts of the soul one can reach the inner sight of the light, the Godly fire and through that fire get closer to the creator. Therefore for us humans words such as Agni are simply signs for us to distinguish things that we have lost in the long process of being born to life here on the earth. On the other side of the coin, there is Ukkhishta to the meaning of which humans could probably never get close. Describing it with words, Atharva Veda creators used all possible comparisons for us to better comprehend the idea of it. Suggesting that there was and will always be forces upon which the universe was created and everything is still operating, most probable explanation would be the combination of the physical powers and natural processes. It is true for most things that happen and are created in life however there are many more of those to which humans still have not found the answer. One of those eternal questions could be the creation of life in the universe and the development of it to the present level. Ukkhishta gives us a hint that there is something that controls absolutely everything and is within everything and is everywhere, only humans can see it through the fire within themselves. The tapas divine energy in us is the key to the possible insight into the world of the creator whoever or whatever that might be. As was already mentioned this divine energy was given to for us to cultivate in if we want to get to know who we are in reality. The mirror in our souls is already existent we just need to clear it so that the small ray of light could become a real flame of creative fire that should be burning in our hearts. Creativity in the meaning of accepting life and understanding life so deeply that everything would be an echo of the Godly providence. Those who are called by the fire within and are training themselves to hear it, will be developing spiritually and growing in God, thus happiness for them being a state of mind not a sequence of events with good or bad results. For Hindus such a way of viewing the world is usual and natural and is shown in the ancient mantras clearly. The mantras themselves do not mean anything if they are not taken as the major truth of life and are not followed with all heart. Peoples of India are one of the most lovable and peaceful people in the modern world despite of vast poverty. These unique people are the light in the world although not many of them see much light in their lives in our Western understanding. This feature of Indians could only mean that they have found a way to accept happiness as it is and see fire where no one else could see a dimmest ray of light. In the famous hymns of the Atharva Veda there are lots of sections and each of them could seem odd and strange at first for people of the Western world. For Indians though such things as Prana (power of life that comes with breathe), their holy cows, the sun in the sky, the earth, the food, the charms for the removal of evil characteristics and the mystic prayers for the royalty are ordinary matters. All of those things they accept and try to find common language with all of them through the one thing they actually have in common, the fire of the life which was the primary substance of all creation. By living such lives of agreement with the rest of the world and by training their souls to recognize omnipresent breathe of God in the air, they reflect the nature itself in its unspotted beauty. Bat Mitzvah: Celebration of 12 Year Old Jewish Females Coming of Age

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Gail Leino When a Jewish girl turns 12 years of age, they are recognized, through Bat Mitzvah, as full-fledged adult women. This rite of passage involves a celebratory rite of passage, not just from childhood into adulthood, it is the auspicious time in which they are expected to both grow spiritually, and become a better person in every facet of their lives. It signifies the solidification of their religious beliefs as well as their own personal code of ethics, and changing from the child who thought of their own needs instead of the needs of others around them. Their focus will be on learning the tenants of their faith to be stronger within the church, and learning skills to make them into better wives and mothers. Jewish girls achieve adult status a year earlier than boys, because they typically mature faster, both physically and emotionally. With Mat Mitzvah, they reach a stage in development where they are expected to decide what kind of person they wish to be, and actively pursue becoming that person. Their morality and sensitivity are thought to have reached a maturity level in which they are able to be responsible for their thoughts and actions. Bat Mitzvah means daughter of a commandment, and signifies the time in life when they must strive to become closer to God, like a daughter to her parent. While Bat Mitzah is a solemn, sacred rite of passage, they are also a celebration of life, growth, and faith. This is often the biggest party in a girls life. Many parents spare no expense, and travel to Israel for their daughters Bat Mitzvahs, or stay home, and hire disc jockeys, have interactive wall-sized televisions, and teen bash style parties, after the religious ceremonies are past, and the only adults remaining are the chaperones. Kosher food, party hats, noise makers, and teens galore make this once in a lifetime rite of passage, a party no girl could ever forget as hey celebrate their emergence into adulthood at their Bat Mitzvah. Tips on How to Celebrate Your Wedding Anniversary This Year

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Rose Ida Taharim Marriage is wonderful and a bit complicated. It is a serious commitment between two individuals. That commitment should be remembered no matter how long you have been together for a long time. It is a promise that the couple made in front of witnesses, not just on the wedding day but for the days and years beyond. It is a commitment that makes two people willing to grow old together no matter what the circumstances. Being married is not that easy. The sweet, rough, pain and happy moment that you both have been through together and your marriage bond still going strong from year to year is something for both of you to be proud of. And this year, do something different to celebrate your wedding anniversary from the previous year. Go for vacation It such a long time you both have never gone for a vacation. Take a break. Apply for a weeks leave. Sit down together and discuss where to go. But, please, no fighting over the decision of the place to go. Think of a place that you both like to go. List down of all the places in a piece of paper and dont forget about the budget. Going for a vacation is not meant to be broke after coming back from the vacation. The kids? What about the kids? There are two solutions. Whether you leave them behind with someone you trust, such as your parents or your in-laws or you take them along. But, beware. You both might be very tired after the vacation with the kids. Do fun activities together Is there an activity that you both love doing it together but dont have the time? Activity such as, cycling, hiking, camping, riding on a hot air balloon, boating, riding horses or even going to movie together. If yes, this is the time. Take a leave and off you go, please. You will realize there is so much of missing moments between both of you. Dine out or specially cook If you both cant take leave, celebrate it romantically with candle light dinner either at your favorite restaurant or at home. If you are to celebrate at home, cook something special. Talking about cooking something special, wife do you still remember what was your 1st cooking after you got married? An over cooked meal with a burned fish? Perhaps you can still cook the dish but give it a slight better cooking this time. Ask your husband, Do you still remember my 1st cooking for you? Lets hear his answer then. The situation might also be vice versa, where the husband was the one who cooked 1st time after got married. If you choose to have outside dinner, I would suggest that you both go to the first dining restaurant that you went for your dating last time. It will bring back nostalgia to both of you. Drop a special note On the day of the anniversary, husband, leave a note on the dressing table or on the bath room mirror or stick it at the refrigerator before you go to work. A simple note saying that, Honey, I love you. Thanks for being me after all these years. Well, you can compose a better love notes than I am. If you find hard to compose one, get a book on love notes from amazon.com or barnesandnobles.com. Or, take a lyric from a love song that you both enjoy listening. Traditional gifts Husband, if you are planning to give a traditional gift for your wife such as flowers, please put an add-on to it. You can combine flowers with chocolate; flowers with keepsake box; flowers with ticket to movie show; flowers with aromatherapy massage oil or flowers with jewelry. Wife, if you are planning to give a gift for your husband, perhaps you can get him a set of toiletries of his favorite designer fragrances, a new shirt with his favorite color, tickets to his favorite sports event or gifts that are related to his hobby. Not another socks, ties, undergarment please. Seeds of Love Husband/wife, your spouse enjoys gardening. Choose few packets of vegetables seeds or flower seeds of her/his favorite selection and wrap it in a pot where the plant going to be plant. Write down a note saying that Lets plant together our Seeds of Love and let our love grow each minute, each day, each week, each month and years. (Our note is just an example. You can compose a better one that ours.) And, do plant the seeds together. Choose a special moment for both of you to plant it. Create Do You Still Remember This Moment? Scrapbook Do you have a memorable photo apart from your wedding photo? A long time vacation photo, a birthday photo, any photo which the event was a memorable one. Pick as much photos as you can and start doing your Do You Still Remember This Moment? scrapbook. With this type of creative memory scrapbooks, memories come back to life when the books are viewed. Pictures make more sense as they are paired with words or laid out in an organized fashion. Reliving moments preserved in the scrapbooks could be a good way to keep family ties and strengthen bonds. Additionally, well kept books could serve as heirlooms that would keep a familys legacy throughout the coming generations. The renewal of vows The renewal of vows is a ceremony where a couple relives their commitment and vows to reaffirm their love and devotion to one another. The couple can set a date that will coincide with the date they celebrated their original wedding. Many couples prefer to renew their vows on the exact date of the 10th, 20th, 25th, or 50th anniversary of their wedding. These are significant dates that they cherish, despite the trials in life as married couples. It is also important and significant to many couples who wish to celebrate their marriage with their families and friends. This celebration is very significant to many couples because they would once again affirm their commitment be unified with love. Time is a luxury that people do not have. There are things that are beyond the control of people that are unforeseen which happen in the blink of an eye. The best thing to do is spend quality time together no matter how short or long, making each other feel loved and special at all times, even though if it is not yet your anniversary day to celebrate. Benefits of Working In a Data Center

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Ant Onaf As the Internet continues to grow and produce large amounts of traffic the need for data centers and data center management increases. This continued growth creates data center jobs and IT careers in the technology field. Data Centers not only provide large hubs for Internet traffic, but it also completes the network infrastructure of most mid-large size companies. Data centers usually house thousands of computers, servers, and technical components. This in itself tells why it is a tremendous benefit to working within a data center. Just the amount of knowledge you can gain while on the job is rewarding enough. Having a data center job puts you on the bleeding edge of technology and hi-tech equipment. By working in a data center you will naturally be more advance than your peers who work in different industries experienced in technology. Data center jobs consist of many different job types which fall under information technology, such as: system administration, network administration, IT security, computer operations, help desk support, server administration, pc repair, engineering, and so much more. If you ever been to school for a computer-related field or you always had an interest to work with computers then working in a data center should have been at the top of your list. Though, most do not consider data center jobs when looking for a job in the information technology field. This is mainly because data center jobs are merely overlooked. Most individuals consider working for a company or corporation in an industry other than data centers, mainly in a company like where they previously worked, before being technically inclined. Gaining a data center job is exactly why you went to school or aligned yourself within the technology field of work. Data centers are inhabited with individuals who are fairly intelligent, usually skilled professionals with an educational background. The benefit of surrounding yourself with knowledgeable individuals is that it enhances your own technical aptitude and empowers your keen technical sense. Another benefit to working in a data center is many times the operations are around the clock (24/7), which means you may have the option of being flexible and working flex schedules, at your leisure. The biggest benefit of working in a data center is stability. The fact being that so many operations, calculations, and transactions depend solely on data centers - society cannot afford to lose data centers. Data centers will always be around and continue to thrive, so this means data center jobs will never fall short. Even in the wake of economic hardships, data centers still did not take a plunge or lose its clarity. If you are reading this article right now, then more than likely at some point a data center involvement allowed me to deliver this article to you. Data center jobs are for life! Follow Up And Turn Prospects Into Clients

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Angela Booth How long does it take to get a client? First, the client has to become aware that we exist, and then that we can solve his problems with our products or services. That growth of awareness is a slow process. It takes time. Let’s say you’ve just sent out a batch of 200 letters, introducing yourself to businesses in your state. You wait, happily anticipating at least a few phone calls. Nothing. You must follow on the 200 letters you sent out. They were simply an introduction. If someone tells me they sent out 200 letters, I know they should have managed to collect from two to five new clients from the exercise. No excuses. Marketing is a numbers game, and worst case scenario, if you send out 200 letters, and follow up diligently, you will get at least two new clients. Where most businesses let themselves down is in the following up process. They either don’t follow up at all, or they follow up in a hit or miss fashion. They fail to even attempt to build a relationship with prospective clients. It’s amazing that some of these businesses survive at all. I’m as guilty of this as everyone else. I get busy too, and let follow-up activities slip. However, if I send out a new mailing, I make a real effort to follow the process through, because I know if I don’t, I’ve just wasted the time and the postage it took to make that mailing. => How to follow up Here’s how to follow up: 1. Have a marketing goal for each month. For example, my marketing goal this month is to get five new clients, and follow up with clients I haven’t heard from for a year. It’s important to have this kind of over-arching marketing goal each month, because it helps you to gain perspective. Each mailing, each phone call and each e-mail message isn’t as important as the overall picture, the amount of persistent marketing you do each day, week, and month. 2. The process begins. You send out your mailing of 200 letters. 3. A week later, follow up with phone calls. Making all the calls, including getting back to the people who didn’t answer the phone because they were in a meeting, on vacation, or whatever will take you another week. 4. Send out material to those who requested it. 5. A week later, follow up with the people you sent material to. 6. A month after the initial mailing, send another mailing to everyone from the original 200 who expressed any interest at all, no matter how slight that interest was. 7. A month after that, send out another mailing, or make phone calls to ALL the prospects who were interested from the first mailing. This means that you’ve contacted the responsives from the 200 you sent the original mailing to at least THREE times. 8. Six months after the first mailing (it’s now three months since they heard from you) follow up with another mailing. 9. Three months later, follow up again. How many clients will you get from that original mailing of 200? My guess, over 12 months, you’ll get at least TEN. Twenty would be excellent. (Remember that from two to five is the very least you’ll get.) Now, let’s imagine that over the next two years, each of those ten clients spends $500 with you. Conservatively, that’s $5000 from one mailing to 200 prospects. It’s also $5000 you won’t earn unless you work on building relationships by following up with your prospects. So when you send a mailing, remember that you need to follow-up. That’s where the money is. Marriage Saving Advice: Have a Soul Connection with Your Spouse Even If All Seems Lost

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Keishia Lee Louis Many of us realize that marriage is not the easiest relationship in the world, but why is it so hard? Unless we adopt children, the only relatives that we get to choose are our spouses. Seems like it should work out, right? We can not change our parents or choose new siblings, but marriage– ahh that’s a whole different thing. Marriage brings out the best and the worst in a person’s character and shows us what we are capable of doing, both positive and negative. This special relationship challenges our mental, spiritual, social, and physical selves. Unfortunately, the natural human reaction to hard or stressful situations is fight or flight. So after a few major disagreements with a spouse, frustrated partners second guess their initial decision to wed. The wheels start turning, and the flight response to the stressful situation becomes more and more attractive. But what can you do if the fires of passion have burned out and only angry ones remain? How can you keep your soul connection with your spouse even during times of conflict? 1. Have confidence in the decision that you have made. Then realize that just like you wouldn’t normally divorce your mom or dad when they get on your last nerve, divorcing your spouse shouldn’t be the first thing that comes to mind when he/she annoys or disappoints you you repeatedly. I know it’s hard, but it’s a key factor in the success of your marriage. 2. If God is not at the center of your relationship, consider welcoming Him into the situation. To start, only one spouse needs to make this decision, but it’s best if both of you are on the same page. Praying together, and as individuals, can provide a solid foundation for your marriage and give you greater insight into what concerns your partner the most. You can start with your own words or with a few books on prayer. A book that has been helpful for me, and numerous people I know, has been, Stormie Omartian: Power of a Praying Wife. The book covers everything from finances and career to sexuality, affection and emotions. It shows wives how to pray for their husbands even if they feel like they don’t have the words. And it gives excellent advice for channeling frustration, hurt or anger into productive energy. If you are a husband, try Power of a Praying Husband. Stormie enlists the help of her husband and other men for insight and wisdom in writing this book. 3. Make mutual respect a priority in your communication. If you find yourselves attacking each other personally, instead of discussing the pros and cons of a particular decision or action, then take a step back to reevaluate the situation. Choose words that reaffirm while getting your point across. For example, instead of saying: “I hate it when you don’t make time to be with me… the kids… etc.” TRY “Remember when we did XYZ? That was so much fun and the kids loved it too. Want to do it again?” SPOUSE’S REPLY HERE “Great! What date works for you?” Additionally, don’t let other family members–kids, in-laws, steps, exes cloud your communication with each other. When they want to butt in, *respectfully* tell them to butt out. Then re-prioritize and refocus your attention on each other. 4. Listen even if you feel like you’ve heard the same statement hashed over and over again. Sometimes venting is necessary, and if your spouse can’t release his/her mental baggage with you, to whom will they voice their concerns? The lack of listening skills in marriage is one reason emotional infidelity gets started in the first place. If you take the time to listen now, you can avoid the headaches and heartaches associated with these extramarital relationships. 5. Start a ritual just for the two of you. Ideally, you’ll both take time out to do it every day or a few times a week. Engaging in ritual behavior, like sharing coffee, watching funny movies together or taking walks, gives you something to look forward to and can help you build intimacy. 6. Consider an organized marriage retreat. Retreats are great because, the facilitators give couples helpful tools for communicating, relating and often mating. You’ll see other couples who are going through the same challenges, and you’ll have time to focus solely on your relationship. No work, no kids/in-laws, no well-meaning friends, and no focusing on the ills of life. 7. Finally, make a point to get away every once in a while. This idea dovetails from the previous suggestion, but this time you and your honey will be alone. Whether you get your kids out of the house for a weekend or you book a seven day vacation to the Bahamas, it is necessary for you and your husband or wife to have extended alone time without any distractions. These are just a few suggestions to help you renew the soul connection with your spouse. The Double Entry Method Of Book Keeping And How To Know If It’s A Debit Or A Credit

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Chadder McD. Debit and credit are the two most basic concepts in accountancy. Today, almost all countries follow the double entry method of book keeping. Under this method, for every account that is debited by a certain amount, another account must be credited by the same amount. Thus, at any given point, the sum total of all debits must be equal to the sum total of credits. For any given transaction, the account to be debited and which credited is based on certain principles of accountancy. Broadly, the rule for debit/credit is as follows: A) For real (or asset) accounts (e.g. furniture, cash, machinery, land, etc.): Debit is what comes in, credit is what goes out. b) For nominal (or income / expense) accounts (e.g. salary, purchase, sales, etc.): Debit is all expenses and losses, credit is all income and gains. This would include our bank chequing accounts and is why were all so used to knowing debit and credit under these conditions. c) For personal (or individuals) accounts (E.g. Mr. Johnsons A/C, Forsyth Inc. A/C, etc.): Debit is the receiver, credit the giver. Thus, for example, if a person buys furniture worth $1000 and pays for it in cash, he would apply rule (a) Debit the furniture account and credit cash a/c. Lets take another transaction. A business pays salary to their employee, Mr. Smith, amounting to $1500 by cheque. In this case, following Rule (b), salary a/c shall be debited, and following rule (c), bank a/c will be credited, since in accounting, the banker is treated as a personal account. At the end of any given period the balances in all the accounts are put in a table format, called the trial balance. The debit balances are put in the debit side of the trial balance and the credit balances on the credit. Since every debit has a corresponding credit, it naturally follows that both sides of the trial balance must be equal. Any discrepancy in the same would point out that an error has taken place somewhere in making an entry. The layman may get confused with the terms debit and credit as used by his banker. The banker will credit you for all deposits of funds in your accounts, i.e., whenever your bank balance increases, and debit you with all withdrawals. But the entries in the bank book for a business are just the opposite. In other words, when you deposit funds in your bank, you debit the bank book and when you make payments or withdrawals, you credit the bankbook. Thus the banks passbook or statement will have the same entries as your bankbook, but on the opposite sides. So next time your accountant tells you that your bank book has been debited by $1000 be happy, for it is a deposit and not a payment!
