A Beginner’s Guide to Reiki

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Lynn Reynolds Interested in Reiki, but dont know where to start? Confused by the universal life energy? Reiki is actually a simple technique, created in the 20th century but based on ancient Eastern principals regarding ki or chi. Reiki (pronounced ray key) is a Japanese word that means universal life energy. Rei means the universal spirit or soul and ki means life force energy. Ki is the same as chi, which you see in the word tai chi. Our bodies and everything around us is made up of energy. When we are attuned to this energy everything flows in a balanced manner. Reiki focuses on removing energy blockages and doing this is a proposed treatment for physical, mental, and spiritual problems. In a Reiki session, a client lies down on a table while the Reiki practitioner moves her hands over the body. She channels the Reiki energy and directs it to the client. There are a variety of hand positions that are taught as a basis to Reiki healing, and a practitioner uses these along with their own experience and intuition as a guide. If a person is interested in becoming a Reiki practitioner, there are three levels that he must study. In the first level, the student is attuned to the Reiki energy so that they may begin to heal themselves. With the second level, the student learns symbols and meditation so that they can become more focused and take their studies to the next level. This level also introduces distance healing. The third level is the Master Teacher level. In addition to learning more symbols and meditations, he is taught the attunement processes of all three levels and is now able to teach Reiki to others. You have the power to attune yourself to this incredible energy. To learn how, visit here. Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eva_Baldwyn]Eva Baldwyn Debt consolidation loan is considered as the best option for getting rid of that pile-up of debts of yours. The loan lessens the burden of debts immediately and you start a new phase of life all again. Bad credit however may pose hurdles in the way of pruning the debts as usually lenders do not want to risk finances to such loan seekers. Debt consolidation loan for bad credit is provided for paying off all debts of the borrower. A fresh loan of at least equal to the amount of debts including interest to be paid is taken from a new lender. Through the borrowed amount the debts are paid off. In other words all your debts are consolidated under new lender. The advantage of debt consolidation loan with bad credit lies in getting rid of higher interest rate debts and replacing them with comparatively lower interest rate loan which lessens the debt burden. The monthly outgo towards installments also gets reduced and instead of paying installments to many lenders you now pay to only one lender, saving time and money that you can use elsewhere. Speed Dating

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Tsan Lin Ever heard of speed dating? Neither have I, until my friend told me she attended a session. She met two very interesting men in one night, and now has two dates back to back. Speed dating attendees sit and chat with potential dates to see whether there is any chemistry. Potential couples talk, giggle, make mental notes on whether theyre interested in the person until a buzzer goes off indicating that it is time to chat with another person. Its kind of like musical chairs, only better. The question I have is how can you possibly get to know someone in a few minutes, while under pressure. It may not be for singles who do not like to be the center of attention or people who are shy. Online dating is similar to speed dating in that members browse through potential dates, only this is done online. There is also no time restrictions with online dating, users take their own time getting to know someone, no pressure to perform. Speed dating and online dating are the newest ways to meet other people, give it a try sometime. One of them may work for you, if you are single and looking. Relationship Advice: Closeness and Connection

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Jeff Herring In my work with couples, certain themes have emerged that can help us understand how a couple that was once close can drift so far apart. How couples drift apart 1) Life got in the way. Somehow, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, couples seem to forget about each other. The initial closeness they once felt has been damaged by focus on work, the bills, the kids, you name it. 2) Each takes the other for granted. This can slowly eat away at any connection a couple might feel. What makes it worse is that it is so very easy to do. Keeping priorities straight in our stressful lives can be very difficult. We get so caught up in simply living that we forget about making a life with our partner. 3) Each stops treating the other well. Somehow we succumb to the notion that all the things we used to do that brought us together are no longer necessary. It’s like the old joke about the couple that had been married for several years and one day the wife said to the husband, “You never say you love me anymore!” The husband responds with, “Well, dear, I told you I loved you on our wedding day. If anything changes, I’ll let you know.” 4) Resentments are held. Old grudges, hurts and resentments are a cancer that can eat away at the closeness of a couple. 5) Communication stops. This is the most frequent reason given by couples as a factor in their drifting apart. Once a couple stops communicating, it’s just a matter of time before the roommate syndrome sets in. If you recognize your relationship in the above examples, hang in there; you are not alone and there is a way out. Couples don’t plan on growing apart, they simply drift apart over time. Just the opposite is true about growing closer again. You don’t just drift into it, you intentionally take action designed to grow closer together. Here are some tips from the couples I’ve worked with that have helped them grow closer again. How couples can get close again 1) Have a conversation about how you first met and what first attracted you to each other. 2) Talk about the times you have felt the most connected. Then list the things you did that helped create that closeness. Then do those things again. 3) Mention something your partner did that you enjoyed. For example, “I loved it today when you gave me a break from the kids/ held my hand/ hugged me/helped me at the office, etc.” 4) Discover what your partner’s “love language” is. Do they most need to see it, hear it, or feel it in order to feel most loved? If you don’t know, ask. 5) Ask your partner what their “perfect day” would be like and then create as much of it as you can. 6) Renew and/or rewrite your vows. Who says we can say these important words only once? Renewing vows, commitments and words of love can rapidly and powerfully bring a couple closer together. These are just a few suggestions for the road back to closeness and connection. I would love to hear from couples about how they have made the journey back to closeness after drifting apart. Life’s A Beach If You Can Fly

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Larry M. Lynch Of course, as we said, the beach isnt just for kids and teenagers. All the family can enjoy the shore provided there arent elbow-to-elbow tourists. You can also do more than just get a tan (or a sunburn). Get up, get active, take to the skies. The usual old favorites are always fun which is why theyre still popular. For some suggestions on alternative beach front vacation activities see the article entitled Unique Things to Do at the Beach. Here are suggestions to consider for taking your beach time into the air: Fly a kite Kite-flying is such a natural beach front activity that they are sold on or near many beaches. Mornings and late afternoons to evening there are usually good sea breezes along most beaches. But why wait until you get there to try your hand? You can comfortably bring one of your own and have a much different (or much better) kite than everyone else. Youll also know how to launch and fly your own kite with a bit of practice before hand. It can also make for a good conversation generator. If youre a kite-flying novice, check out these websites for more information and even plans for building and flying your own. http://www.skratch-pad.com/kites/make.html Have ever wanted to build a kite? Well, here is a simple kite you can make your self! http://www.aloha.net/~bigwind/20kidskites.html These are the complete time tested instructions to get 20 kids making their own kites and flying them in 20 minutes. http://www.planemath.com/activities/flykite/kiteplans.html http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/kites/diamond/ Make a kite from BBQ skewers and White Kitchen tidy bag, with perhaps a bread bag cut into a long streamer for a tail. http://www.ehow.com/how_1288_make-kite.html How to make a kite. While kites are inexpensive to buy, making one adds to the fun. You’ll be especially proud when your diamond-shaped creation takes to the sky. http://www.2020site.org/kite/ This site is about Kites - how to build kites, and includes plans for kites. Kite flying has been a popular hobby for hundreds of years and has evolved from the diamond figure and long tail the Victorian children enjoyed. http://scsc.essortment.com/howtobuilda_rlrf.htm Kites are fun for young and old alike. You can build your own kite, or help your kids build one by reading this article! http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/kites/panflute/ The Panflute is a soft kite (no sticks) made of 7 connected windsock like tubes or cells. It has a good wind range and flies at an angle of 30-40 degrees. It flies with a side-to-side sway, or wobble, making this kite very pleasant to look at in the sky, particularly with a long ribbon tail, or other decoration. The kite is a great for families. It can be stuffed in a bag, and flown on the beach. Bury the handle in the sand and leave flying to mark your picnic spot. Fly an airplane Another popular beach front activity is flying a paper, balsa wood or model airplane. With wide open spaces and light to still breezes, virtually any design will soar like an albatross. If you fly paper designs then losing one wont break your heart. Balsa wood or Styrofoam planes fly well in beach breezes too, just remember its possible to lose your craft to a stray or persistent breeze going the wrong way. Options for planes abound in Hobby shops, Toy stores, book stores, and of course, the internet. Radio-controlled model airplanes are a possibility too. Again, just be sure to check local regulations. To learn more about making paper airplanes check out these sites. www.paperairplanes.co.uk/ Alex’s paper airplanesCobra Paper Airplane The Planes - This is an index listing all the paper airplanes currently on the site ranked by how easy they are to make http://www.wannalearn.com/Just_for_Fun/Making_Paper_Airplanes/ Just for Fun : Making Paper Airplanes http://www.cdli.ca/CITE/paper.htm This page lists some of the best Web sites on how to make and fly paper airplanes. http://www.exploratorium.edu/exploring/paper/airplanes.html T he most amazing thing about a paper airplane is that all you need to make one is a sheet of papernothing more. http://paperplane.org/ Ken Blackburn, web site to share what he knows about paper airplanes. He holds the Guinness record for time aloft for paper airplanes. So dont just go to the beach and lay there like a fish out of water. Take to the water or better yet, take to the skies. Youll never look at a beach resort vacation the same again. Prof. Larry M. Lynch is a writer and photographer specializing in business, travel, food and education-related writing in South America. Four Fly Fishing Tips

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Frank Faldo Good Fly Presentation Obviously, the goal when casting a fly is to present the fly to the fish in a realistic manner. You are trying to simulate nature here. If you are going for trout in a stream, for instance, this means a drag-free float of 36 inches over a precise spot that marks the window of a feeding fish. Never randomly cast you have got to pick a spot and hit it. Throw tight loops that put the fly on target. One important method that can be used is to overcast the target and stop the line short while it is in the air. The fly should come back to you and fall on the water with slack in the leader. The best trout fishermen fish with only 30 to 35 feet of line, but make up for this with accurate casting. They read waters will and put the fly in the p ay zone time after time. One of the most important thins they do is to recognize that presentation and approach are much more important than pattern. It is different for bass. Whether a surface bug or a streamer, the offering must move past a spot where a bass is apt to hold. As the boat drifts, it is important to pick a precise time to shoot a cast to the target. Too soon or too late, and the fly wont be in the right spot. This is where the double haul form of casting becomes essential. It generates line speed and enables the caster to pick 30 or 40 feet of line off the water and shoot another without false casting. When bassing, make your presentation, retrieve 10 to 20 feet, pick up, and cast again without the need to false cast. After each one, drop the rod type and keep the butt of the rod near your belt buckle with the tip-top of the rod pointing at the line. A simple lift will let you execute the next pickup or strike a fish. Leader Connection If you are a fly caster, you know that a smooth connection between the leader and fly line is important in presentation. The best way to do this is to nail-knot a six-inch piece of 25-30 pound leader material to the end of the fly line. A loop like those found on snelled hooks is then tied into the opposite end. The connecting leader must also have a loop. Connecting the leader itself is done by passing the loop attached to the fly line through the loop on the leader; reaching through the fly line loop. Next, grab the butt section of the leader and pull the leader up through until the tippet passes the loop. Last, just pull the loops together by tugging on the fly line and the butt section in opposite directions. Strategy If you are every in a situation where see large brown trout in open water and hold, your best bet is to use a No. 12 Cinnamon Ant and sink it. If this doesnt work, move to the No.16 Adams fly. Still nothing? Switch to the No. 20 Black Ant. Last-ditch effort would be to use a 3X tippet and use a No. 6 nymph or streamer. Typically the bigger trout will leave small morsels to the small guys, preferring the bigger bites that are easy to get. They are very economical feeders. High Rider Dry Flys If your best dry-fly patterns are failing you, it may be time to switch to spiders and variants. Many times a spider or variant will bring trout to the surface, then you can switch back to a conventional dry fly. These spiders and variants will delicately drop to the water, usually somersaulting or jumping after touching it. Fish find this very alluring. High riding is another attribute of these flies. When tied properly, their hackles support the hook above the waters surface, thus imitating a natural fly much more closely than the ordinary fly does. When Should You Use a Cute Pick Up Line?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Scott Patterson Pick up lines are a risky way to start a conversation with women. When you use them, you run the risk of looking like a fool. What I usually recommend to my readers is to look for genuine conversation starters instead of using a lame pick up line. But if you can’t think of anything to say, you can try a cute pick up line. The key is to make sure it comes across as a genuine compliment. If you make her feel special, you’ll at least be able to continue conversation. The rest is up to you. To get started, here are a few different cute pick up lines that you can use. Like I said before, pick up lines aren’t the best way to start a conversation. But at least these won’t make the girl slap you: “I don’t think I have met you before, because I would have certainly remembered a good-looking woman like you” “I can’t believe I have been here the whole night and when I see ‘The One’, I have to say good bye” “Were you always this cute or do you have to work at it?” “You’re so how that you could make Satan sweat.” “I’ve had a lousy day today. It always makes me feel better to see a pretty girl smile. So would you smile for me?” “Are you as beautiful on this inside as you are on the outside?” “Is it hot in here, or is it just you?” “Weren’t you on the cover of Vogue?” “I am not drunk. I am just intoxicated just by being around you.” “Haven’t we met beforeoh yeah, you’re the girl with beautiful smile!” “Right now I feel like Richard Gere, because I am standing next to a Pretty Woman.” “I now that milk ‘does a body good’, but damn girl, how much milk have you been drinking?” “If God made anything better then you, he would have kept it for himself.” “There aren’t enough O’s in the word hot to describe how hot you are.” “Hey, please don’t frown, because you never know when someone might be falling love with your smile.” Trying to use a cute pick up line is not the best way to engage a conversation. While you might get her to start talking, you won’t have taken any steps to creating rapport with her. So instead of using a cute pick up line, try to find something genuine that you like a woman and use that to start talking to her. Are you having trouble meeting and attracting women? Well stop worrying about using a cute pick up line! Instead learn about the RIGHT way to approach women. Of Knitting Needles And A Mother’s Touch

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Sheryl Joy Olano Time went byever so slowly as the knitting needle rolled smoothly across the glass-topped roundtable. A heavy sigh escaped from pouting lips… mine. The object and cause of disappointment was sprawled motionlessly on my lap. The string of green that must have gone through World War II seemed to taunt me. Why I couldnt get it right, I didnt know. It looked so easy when my friends were doing it. Simple knitting, Sheryl! I scolded myself. How could something so simple be so complicated? I knew it was silly being so crestfallen over inanimate objects as if the whole world depended on it. But I wanted to learn the craft. When I saw Meeyan knitting one afternoon with her hands doing a tiptoe dance like those of a ballerinas feet, I was enamored by such grace. So there I was late at night trying to knit and shaming the women race. Then Mom came in the kitchen. I colored at the surprise on her face as she asked me why I was still awake. Sheepishly I told her and regretted it when she burst out laughing. It was clear in her laughter that she thought I was being ridiculous. Yet, her eyes sparkled with something like pride. Even simplicity, she said, needs to be defined. She took the needle and the yarn (which both betrayed me and tripped my hands in their dancing) and showed me how to really knit. When she let me do it, I was still a hopeless case. Yet it only made her smile more. At last, I got it right. The yarn was already in a splice, in a cleaner chain compared to the confused nest I made earlier. Mom stood up and hinted that I keep practicing. Before she left, she told me, Life is full of false starts and new beginnings, of failures before success, of tripping and falling. What matters is that you get up in every fall, learn in every mistake and never stop trying until you get it right. While there is room for mistakes, there is room for improvements and, just think, a house of learning. My mother could have been a great teacher. I remember back when I was seven years old and still could not read. When she found out about it, she was so angry; she scared the hell out of me. Being a topnotcher herself in her youth, she was insulted. I didnt know how she did it but overnight she had turned me into a fluent reader. Uhmokay, there were lots of spanking and pinching (my eyes still water at the thought of it). But it was worth it. Perhaps I already had it in me but did not know it because I did not care. Why I did not care? Because I was not interested. And why? Because I thought I could never use it. All I cared about was playing. But my mother changed that. She opened one window by teaching me how to read, and lots of doors opened for me since then. A sigh came out againbut this time of swelling pride and contentment. My thoughts went from the glaring eagle eyes of a hardened face that made me cower at mere sightto eyes that shine with wisdom from a face gentled by years. Mom, youre simply the best, I thought. Then I went back to knitting. Oopstheres the mistake again! I struggled for a whilethen went on with my progress. Sheryl Joy Olao is an editor of publishing company CannonCreek Asia Inc.
